At Gauteng Pallets, we fully comply with ISPM 15, an international standard that requires all wood packaging materials used in transport and shipping to be debarked and heat-treated. This treatment is essential to prevent the spread of pests and diseases across borders, helping to safeguard ecosystems both locally and globally.
To verify compliance, all treated wood products must bear a mark known as the “wheat stamp”, an internationally recognized symbol that confirms the wood meets ISPM 15 standards. Our pallets proudly carry this stamp, signifying their approval for international use and adherence to the highest safety protocols.
Without this mark, authorities have limited ability to monitor or control the spread of invasive species. Pest outbreaks linked to untreated wood can lead to devastating consequences – costing millions in damages to agriculture, forestry, and food supply chains.
Once pests establish themselves in a new environment, containment becomes increasingly difficult and costly. This is why prevention through ISPM 15 compliance is not just important it’s critical.
At Gauteng Pallets, we’re committed to environmental responsibility and global standards, ensuring your products move safely and sustainably, every step of the way
The National Plant Protection and Packaging Inspection Service (NPPPIS) operates under SAAFQIS – the South African Agricultural Food, Quarantine and Inspection Technology authority. As the national certifying body, NPPPIS is responsible for issuing ISPM 15 certificates and conducting inspections to ensure that industries involved in wood packaging comply with international phytosanitary standards.
NPPPIS has established a clear and consistent Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that all ISPM 15-registered companies must follow. This uniform set of guidelines ensures that only the highest quality, heat-treated wood products enter the supply chain.
At Gauteng pallets, we are proud to adhere strictly to these procedures, guaranteeing that our customers receive wood packaging products that meet both national and international standards. Our compliance reflects our commitment to quality, safety, and the protection of ecosystems worldwide.
