--smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1024\/683;\" \/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Transit Ads\u2122 is in the process of launching Transit XL, a network of 3x6m digital screens expected to be viewed by around 5.5 million consumers a month \u2013 demonstrating the efficacy\/potential reach of digital-out-home (DOOH) within the transit environment. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\nare currently three Transit XL screens in operation, located at Park Station\nand Pretoria Station in Gauteng and at Umlazi Taxi Rank in KwaZulu Natal. By the\nend of the year, more screens will be rolled out at strategic locations in Cape\nTown, Polokwane and Mangaung. Brands that are keen to advertise in these\ncommuter hubs, which boast high footfall, long dwell-times and conveniently\nsegmented audiences, will be able to secure 15-second slots on a 90-second loop\non the screens, which are operational from 5am-8pm daily. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBrands\nhave a ready-made audience that is largely young, urban and difficult to reach\nthrough traditional media,\u201d says Shamy Naidu, executive: Transit Ads\u2122. \u201cOnce all the Transit XL\nscreens are live, we will be able to offer brands a total audience of around 5.5\nmillion on this media option \u2013 and thanks to the advantages of DOOH, brands can\nkeep their production costs low, change their messaging according to their\nmarketing strategies, and target consumers close to point of sale. It\u2019s also\neasy to target groups of people in particular locations with messages that are\nincreasingly relevant to them \u2013 in fact, penetrating niche environments is now\ninfinitely easier thanks to DOOH.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Transit XL\nscreens will amplify campaigns, enhancing brand recall and visibility thanks to\nimpactful content that is very hard to miss and impossible to block. In\nsupporting the global trend towards the greater use of DOOH, Transit Ads\u2122 recognises that it is\nnow one of the most interactive and fastest growing forms of advertising\nglobally \u2013 something recently confirmed by Steve Nicklin, vice-president of\nmarketing at the Outdoor Advertising Association of America. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As\nthe only traditional medium that has been growing consistently over the past\nten years, DOOH is attracting an increasing amount of investment in South\nAfrica and elsewhere. Part of its effectiveness is that it helps brands to\ndeliver the right ad in the right place and the right time. In fact, according\nto a 2019 report by Factual, nine out of ten marketers favour location-based advertising\nas it results in higher sales, growth in customer base and higher customer\nengagement. Transit XL can assist brands in getting relevant messaging across\nto consumers passing through these urban hubs, optimising their campaigns in\nthe process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The\nimpressive reach of DOOH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Research done by\nNielsen in 2018 shows that DOOH delivers a good return on investment \u2013\ntypically around R2.30 for every rand spent, as against R1.25 for traditional\nOOH and R1.30 for regular TV. However, combining these media as part of a\nbroader marketing strategy delivers an additional 10% return, suggesting that\nDOOH is effective whether leveraged on its own or as part of an integrated multimedia\ncampaign. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If one doubts the\neffectiveness of digital, a further Nielsen report confirms its impressive\nreach \u2013 in 2015, 75% of commuters surveyed noticed a digital billboard within a\nmonth, and 60% within a week. Of those commuters who noticed the billboard\nwithin a month, 55% noticed specific message either every time or most of the\ntime, reinforcing the idea that <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">brand recall is\nenhanced with DOOH. A full 77% of commuters polled say digital billboards\ncapture their attention and 71% feel they stand out more than online ads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The XL screens may\nwell be even more impactful, particularly when it comes to geo-targeting (37%\nof commuters surveyed by Nielsen said they noticed digital billboards providing\nspecific directions to nearby businesses, restaurants or stores, with 22%\nchanging their plans as a result). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is well known\nthat DOOH extends the reach and impact of a campaign, with large-format screens\nelevating brand status in the eyes of consumers.
